Full explainer
LEAF Coalition — Lowering Emissions by Accelerating Forest finance — is a public-private buyer coalition launched in 2021 that pre-commits to purchase verified jurisdictional REDD+ credits from tropical-forest countries. Anchor public-sector participants include the US, UK, Norway, and Korea; corporate participants include Amazon, Salesforce, Unilever, Nestlé, McKinsey, and others. The coalition commits to purchase credits at a USD 10/tCO₂e floor price from jurisdictions whose programmes meet the ART TREES Standard.
Indonesia signed a LEAF Participation Letter and is one of the larger eligible jurisdictions, but as of 2026 has not yet issued ART/TREES credits at scale. The interaction between Indonesia's domestic SRN-PPI / NEK framework and LEAF's jurisdictional approach is still being worked out — KLHK is the principal counterparty on the host side. LEAF represents the largest single demand-side signal for high-quality jurisdictional REDD+ globally.
