ART — the Architecture for REDD+ Transactions — and its TREES Standard (The REDD+ Environmental Excellence Standard) is a jurisdictional-scale REDD+ crediting framework. Unlike Verra's VCS REDD+ methodologies, which credit individual sub-national projects, ART issues TREES Credits at the jurisdictional level — typically a province or nation — based on the unit's overall avoided deforestation against a country-wide reference level.
ART/TREES is the framework backing several major LEAF Coalition agreements (Lowering Emissions by Accelerating Forest finance) — the demand-side coalition led by Amazon, Salesforce, Unilever, and others that pre-commits to purchase verified jurisdictional REDD+ credits. Indonesia has signed LEAF participation letters but has not yet issued ART/TREES credits at scale; CCBA + Verra remain the dominant Indonesian project-level frameworks.
