Regulation
Kemenhut
Also known as: Kementerian Kehutanan, Ministry of Forestry
TL;DR
The post-2024-split Indonesian Ministry of Forestry, separated out from the consolidated KLHK and now the dedicated forestry-sector regulator.
Full explainer
Kemenhut — Kementerian Kehutanan, the Ministry of Forestry — is the dedicated forestry-sector ministry that emerged when the 2024 government reshuffle split the previously-consolidated KLHK (Environment and Forestry) into separate Environment (KLH) and Forestry (Kemenhut) ministries. The transition is still ongoing at the time of writing — Permenhut 14/2024 and Permenhut 6/2026 both reference 'KLHK' rather than 'Kemenhut', and the SRN portal at menlhk.go.id has not been re-pointed.
Once the split is fully operationalised, Kemenhut will be the dedicated authority for forestry-based carbon projects (REDD+, ARR, mangrove restoration), and KLH will handle non-forestry environmental policy (peatland-rewetting where it sits under environmental law rather than forestry concession). For practical purposes today, KLHK references should be read as the consolidated body; future Permenhut numbering will likely be issued by Kemenhut alone.
