Full explainer
AR-AMS0007 is a CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) small-scale methodology for Afforestation and Reforestation projects on land that was grassland or cropland at project start. Small-scale CDM methodologies have a removal cap (in this case 16,000 tCO₂e/year) but lower transaction costs than full-scale methodologies, making them suitable for community-led or smallholder-scale tree-planting.
A handful of Indonesian smallholder ARR projects are registered under AR-AMS0007, typically with co-benefit standards (CCB) layered on top. With the Article 6.4 PACM mechanism succeeding the CDM, AR-AMS0007 projects face a transition decision: stay under the legacy CDM (which can no longer issue new credits after the 2024 cutoff), or re-register under PACM or under Verra's VM0047. Most Indonesian registrants are exploring VM0047 as the migration path.
