VM0011

Also known as: Methodology for Calculating GHG Benefits from Preventing Planned Degradation

Verra methodology (legacy) for crediting projects that prevent the planned degradation of forests — superseded by VM0048's planned-degradation module.

VM0011 is a legacy Verra methodology for crediting projects that prevent planned forest degradation (e.g. preventing a logging concession from being exercised). It was rarely used compared to its REDD siblings because the eligibility criteria for 'planned degradation' are narrow: the baseline must rest on a documented, legally authorised plan to degrade the forest that the project displaces.

With the publication of VM0048 in 2023 — the consolidated REDD methodology — Verra is steering new registrations away from VM0011 and toward VM0048's planned-degradation module (forthcoming as part of the VM0048 family). VM0011 issuances are now concentrated in a small set of projects already in their original crediting period; new registrations should expect to use the VM0048 framework instead.
