Methodology
AM0029
Also known as: Baseline Methodology for Grid Connected Electricity Generation from Natural Gas
TL;DR
CDM baseline methodology for grid-connected natural-gas electricity generation — credits the displacement of higher-carbon coal generation on the connected grid.
Full explainer
AM0029 is a CDM large-scale baseline methodology for new grid-connected electricity generation from natural gas. The methodology credits the emissions reduction from displacing higher-carbon grid generation (typically coal in Indonesia's mix) with combined-cycle gas-fired plants. The reduction depends on the grid emission factor at the time of generation, which Indonesia publishes annually for each interconnected system.
A small number of Indonesian gas-power CDM projects registered under AM0029 during the active CDM era. The methodology is essentially obsolete now — IPCC AR6 framing treats new natural gas as transitional at best, and ICVCM's CCP framework would not grant eligibility to a methodology that simply credits gas-for-coal displacement. AM0029 credits in circulation continue to trade on the secondary CER market for compliance buyers with restrictive eligibility lists.
