Methodology
ACM0001
Also known as: Flaring or use of landfill gas
TL;DR
CDM consolidated large-scale methodology for landfill-gas capture, flaring, or productive use — covers methane recovery from municipal solid-waste landfills.
Full explainer
ACM0001 is a CDM consolidated methodology for the capture, flaring, or productive use of landfill gas — the methane-rich biogas generated by anaerobic decomposition in municipal solid-waste (MSW) landfills. Eligible activities include venting through a flare (methane to CO₂), electricity generation from gas engines, or pipeline injection. Baseline assumes the methane would otherwise vent uncontrolled.
In Indonesia, ACM0001 has been used at the larger urban landfill sites (Bantar Gebang, Sarimukti, etc.) where the methane volumes are sufficient to make capture economic. Cookstove and palm-oil-mill biogas (POME) projects use different methodologies (AMS-II.G. and AMS-III.H. respectively). With CDM winding down, large-scale landfill-gas projects in Indonesia are migrating to Verra's VM0026 or to PACM under Article 6.4.
