VMR0006

Also known as: Energy Efficiency and Fuel Switch Measures in Thermal Applications

Legacy Verra clean-cookstove methodology superseded in October 2024 by VM0050; withdrawn from ICVCM CCP assessment after the C-Quest Capital integrity scandal.

VMR0006 was the Verra Registered Methodology used by most clean-cookstove projects, in particular the high-efficiency firewood cookstove activity type. It was the methodological basis for a large pipeline of credits issued in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia and was under active ICVCM Core Carbon Principle assessment.

In October 2024 Verra superseded VMR0006 with the new VM0050 methodology, citing the need for tighter usage-rate assumptions and stove-stacking accounting after independent academic and journalistic scrutiny — culminating in the C-Quest Capital integrity disclosures — found that real-world emission reductions were systematically lower than VMR0006 had credited. VMR0006 was withdrawn from the ICVCM CCP assessment process and is no longer an eligible methodology for new project registrations.
